The mission of this site is to provide complete & up-to-date information for those elderly or disabled individuals who need to apply for and obtain home care service at a relatively low cost or free of charge (if certain criteria are met). Home care service entails a personal care aide caring for an elderly or disabled person in the comfort of the latter’s home. Individuals who do not wish to be institutionalized or do not need to be can choose this option: Being cared for at home. Receiving care at home can be very safe and healthy for a senior, disabled, or chronically ill person as one’s home is generally considered safer and thus less stressful vs. living at an assisted living facility or senior nursing home. Some individuals have been receiving decade long of home care service, and they have been well taken care of. One can argue that living at home with the assistance of a caregiver has contributed to one’s longevity, all the while maintaining his or her independence to the fullest extent possible.

There are two types of home care service available: (1.) Personal Care Service (Personal Care Aide) and (2.) the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) service:

Personal Care Service (Personal Care Aide):
In Personal Care Service, a licensed home care agency provides their certified aide for you. While you do not have to worry about finding an aide on your own, you have limited choice in the aide an agency selects for you. However, you can rest assured that the aide sent by a home care agency are vetted as doing so is an agency's responsibility required by State law. Aides sent by an agency are also trained every six months as part of mandatory in-service training regiment set forth by state department of health.

Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) service:
You hire your own aide, and such aide does not need to be certified. In fact such aide can be close friends, relatives, or family members. If you are 21 or older, you can hire your parents at your aide in the CDPAP program. Therefore, the CDPAP service gives one freedom in choosing an aide of your choice--even if it is a family member or close relative. All you have to do is take care of scheduling, and the home care agency of your choice--called a fiscal intermediary--will handle payroll and fringe benefits such as paid time off and medical insurance for your aide.
